Poker is a card game in which each player bets according to the value of their hand. A poker hand comprises five cards. The value of a hand is in inverse proportion to its mathematical frequency: the more unusual the combination, the higher the rank of the hand. Players may also bluff, betting that they have the best hand when they do not, thereby forcing other players to call (match) their bet or concede.<\/p>\n
In most games, the first round of betting is initiated by two mandatory bets called blinds put into the pot by the players to the left of the dealer. This is done to create an incentive for people to play. After the blinds are placed, each player must either call the bet made by the player to their left, raise it, or drop out of the hand.<\/p>\n
During the pre-flop and flop phases of the game, players bet $1 at a time, while on the turn and river, they bet $2 at a time. This allows players to determine other player\u2019s betting patterns more easily. Aggressive players will often bet high early in a hand, and can be bluffed into folding their hands.<\/p>\n
During the game, players can also establish a \u201ckitty,\u201d a fund used for things like new decks of cards and food and drink. The kitty is built by taking one low-denomination chip from each pot in which a player has raised. Those chips are then cut among all the players who remain in the game.
