Amongst vying games, poker is one of the most famous and widely played. There are several variations of the game, based on the number of cards in the deck, the number of players, and the method of dealing the cards.<\/p>\n
The aim of poker is to make the best hand from a set of five cards, ranked from Ace to Ace. In some games, you may be given an extra card as a wild card, allowing you to take any suit.<\/p>\n
In a tie, the highest unmatched fifth card wins. The next highest card wins if there are more than one five of a kind.<\/p>\n
A “backdoor flush” is achieved by hitting needed cards on the turn and river. The highest value card in a straight starts with the “straight flush” and the next highest value card wins in a “straight”.<\/p>\n
When all players fold, the last player to the left of the button (the “dealer”) collects the pot without revealing the winning hand. The remaining players are required to add to the pot, either with a forced bet, or an ante.<\/p>\n
After the cards are dealt, the players start betting. This is done clockwise.<\/p>\n
During the first round of betting, the player to the dealer’s left bets a minimum of the double first blind. The second blind is generally equal to the double first blind. This gives the player something to chase.<\/p>\n
The bluffing feature of poker distinguishes it from other vying games. The dealer’s “button” is a white plastic disk that marks the nominal dealer.
