Online Gambling – Is Online Gambling Right For You?
Online gambling involves betting on a variety of differing game types and events over the internet. It is accessible from most mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets, with the majority of gamblers using their phones to access online casinos. Online gambling can be a great way to play casino games, sports bets, poker and much more from the comfort of your home. It offers exceptional dynamics and a faster pace of play when compared to traditional casinos.
The majority of online gamblers surveyed use their smartphone to access their favourite gambling sites, with around half saying they have used their tablet or laptop to gamble as well. However, despite the dominance of smartphones in the survey, there is a clear age skew with three-quarters of 18-34-year-olds reporting that they use their phones for online gambling while only 14% of those aged 65 and over do so.
Like other forms of addiction, people with gambling disorder often experience social and professional problems, which can lead to disruptions in their romantic and family relationships. They may also experience feelings of withdrawal when they try to stop or reduce their gambling activity. In some cases, they may even resort to theft or fraud in order to fund their addiction.
In addition, individuals with gambling disorders tend to have higher rates of health and mental health comorbidities than those who do not engage in this behaviour. Furthermore, studies suggest that certain personality traits are associated with increased risk of developing a gambling disorder.
